No 24h MTB race in 2025
Rad am Ring 2024 was phenomenal and a great finale for the 24h MTB race! However, we will no longer be organising this discipline in 2025. We didn’t make this decision lightly and we don’t want to implement it without explanation.
We have endeavoured for many years to make Rad am Ring an interesting event for mountain bikers as well: From the MTB marathon to the Cross Country Bundesliga race to the 24h MTB race. However, while the numbers of racing cyclists have developed extremely positively, we have been experiencing a decline in the MTB disciplines for several years: in the 24-hour race from around 800 participants, the best figure, to 315 this year. The modification of the route in 2023 and the cancellation of other races also had no positive impact on the number of participants. This is partly due to the fact that, in contrast to racing cyclists, we cannot offer a ‘globally unique’ route for mountain bikers. In this context, we have also observed that the Nordschleife is so attractive to many die-hard mountain bikers that even they are more likely to hop on a road bike saddle at Rad am Ring than an MTB saddle.
All in all, with the current number of participants, we cannot develop our 24-hour MTB race substantially and, above all, not on the same scale as the road bike disciplines, so there will be no further event in 2025.
