Rad am Ring: electrifying emotional ping-pong

Nürburgring, July 20, 2024 – 4 PM – “It’s almost surreal how well everything is going,” enthuses head of organization Hanns-Martin Fraas. Although more riders than ever were on the track this Saturday, there were no hiccups in the processes. And not just today: “Set up, briefing, procedures, everything went like clockwork. The atmosphere is electrifying – a real emotional ping-pong between us, the participants and the supporters. I’ve never experienced this to such an extent here. The atmosphere surpasses last year’s already great one,” says Hanns-Martin Fraas.

More than 10,000 participants take part in Rad am Ring this weekend in various disciplines. Highlights are the 24-hour races for road cyclists and mountain bikers – in teams of 2, 4, and 8 or as solo riders. The road bike course includes both the modern Grand Prix circuit and the legendary Nordschleife. The 24-hour mountain bike course starts on the Grand Prix track and leads around the Nürburg through the Eifel forest. The team quarters are located directly on the track and in the pit lane, creating a unique atmosphere. In addition to the 24-hour event, Rad am Ring offers amateur races over three distances, a time trial, and touring rides (sporty or tourist/e-bike) without timekeeping. There is also a varied supporting program with an expo, guided tours, and a barbecue.
